What is the Bitcoin Long Short Ratio?

The Bitcoin long short ratio refers to a figure that represents the proportion of investors in either long or short positions in the market. For detailed information on the Bitcoin long short ratio, it’s most accurate to check on each exchange.

Characteristics

By examining the Bitcoin position ratio graph, you can easily see whether more users have entered long or short positions.

Additionally, it can serve as an indicator of which position to enter. When positions seem overly concentrated on one side, entering the opposite position can be a strategy for safer trading.

In this post, we will explore a variety of detailed aspects related to the Bitcoin long short ratio.

Bitcoin Long Short Ratio Sites

Personally, I recommend Coinglass. It is used as the source site for the famous domestic Kimchi Premium site, which utilizes Coinglass’s API, because Coinglass is the original source.

Bitcoin Long Short Ratio Sites

At Coinglass, you can see the long short ratio of most major futures exchanges at a glance, as shown in the above image.

By selecting the cryptocurrency you want to check and setting the time frame, you can easily view the long short ratio over different periods.

However, such sites use external APIs for reflection, which means there is a delay compared to the original exchanges.

The most accurate way to check is, as mentioned earlier, to consult the information provided directly by each exchange.

Checking Binance’s Long Short Ratio

Binance provides a separate information page for this, and if you use Binance, it is advisable to check the Binance long short ratio chart provided directly by them.

Checking Binance's Long Short Ratio

The ratio provided by Binance offers various information. The above image is a chart representing the position ratio graph based on the ‘accounts’ of traders with the most assets in the top 20% of margin wallets.

The next image similarly represents the long short ratio based on ‘position orders’ of traders with the most assets in the top 20% of margin wallets.

Following is a ratio chart based on all Binance users who have entered positions. The graphs provided here are updated in real time without errors after 5 minutes, offering more detailed and varied information than other external sites.

Checking Bitget’s Long Short Ratio

Checking Bitget's Long Short Ratio

Bitget exchange offers real-time long short ratios on its futures trading page. It’s important to note that not many sites like Bitget offer real-time ratios, a feature also not provided by other famous exchanges such as Bybit.

Also, by checking the real-time Bitget long short ratio, you can immediately use it as a futures indicator.

Personal Opinion on the Coin Long Short Ratio

When positions are severely skewed to one side, it can lead to intentional market manipulation and liquidation by the exchange, as the assets gained from users’ futures profits are the responsibility of the exchange, which must also pay out users’ earnings.

Since exchanges are businesses that need to generate revenue and profits, they are often reluctant to have a high proportion of users making profits, especially in futures, which can be more profitable than spot trading. Therefore, they exercise stricter control and management.

One aspect that I find regrettable is that in the long short ratio charts, it’s not possible to see how much capital is invested in long positions versus short positions.

If it were possible to see the total margin used for each position, it would provide a more definitive indicator for futures trading.

Does Binance show the ratio immediately like Bitget?

To answer directly, there are very few futures exchanges like Bitget that show the ratio immediately. Another exception is the MEXC exchange.
